Data are from debt sustainability analyses for 60 emerging-market economies. The emerging-market (EM) weighted average is weighted by the size of each economy in current dollar values as of 2023. China’s public gross financing needs are calculated based on the augmented debt definition, which expands the parameters of government to include the activity of local government financing vehicles, government-guided funds and special-construction funds.

How might the recently announced US trade measures translate into economic reality?
Eric Winograd | 10 April 2025Trade wars threaten longstanding trade partnerships and could weigh on the global economy.
Eric Liu, Eric Winograd | 03 April 2025Global growth should continue to slow if US policy direction remains unclear. Inflation has waned but tariffs could boost prices in the near term. We expect most central banks to ease further yet more slowly. While broad uncertainty prevails, we don’t forecast a recession in any major economy for 2025.
