Joan Lamm-Tennant
Independent Chair of the Board—AB
Joan Lamm-Tennant was appointed Independent Director and Chair of the board of AB in 2021. She brings to the board significant industry and academic experience, having held global business leadership roles and a distinguished career as a professor of finance and economics. Lamm-Tennant is the founder and former CEO of Blue Marble Microinsurance. She serves on the board of directors of Ambac Financial Group, Hamilton Insurance Group and Element Fleet Management. Lamm-Tennant is currently a director and member of the audit committee of Equitable Holdings, Equitable Financial Life Insurance Company and Equitable Financial Life Insurance Company of America. She also serves as a member of the finance and risk committee of Equitable Holdings. Lamm-Tennant previously served as a member of the board of directors of Selective Insurance Group from 1993 to 2015, Ivans from 2004 to 2013, Focus Trust Fund from 1995 to 1998 and Turner Investment Advisors from 1996 to 1997. She was previously an adjunct professor of international business at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, from 2006 to 2015. Prior to or concurrently with her service at The Wharton School, Lamm-Tennant held various senior positions in the insurance industry, including with Marsh & McLennan Companies, Guy Carpenter and General Reinsurance Corporation. Lamm-Tennant holds a BBA in accounting and an MBA in finance from St. Mary’s University and a PhD in finance and investments from the University of Texas at Austin.
